McMINNVILLE, Ore. –
Ayana Medina and
Ethan Ensrud turned in valiant efforts for Linfield to highlight the Wildcats' home debut Thursday evening inside Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
Â
Though Pacific took both sides of the dual meet, Wildcat fans were treated to several exciting performances by both established veterans and a promising newcomer. The Boxers men prevailed by a 38-18 score while the Pacific women pulled away to win 29-10.
Â
Medina rallied for a victory with 15 seconds remaining in her bout, securing a pin of the Boxers' Analeese McAllister at 145 pounds.
Â
Linfield's only other team points on the women's side came at 103 pounds where newcomer
Tori Debold was awarded a forfeit victory.
Â
Wrestling one weight class higher than his customary spot in the lineup at 184, Ensrud knocked off Pacific's Spyre Nelson with a pin at the 2:15 mark. Also pocketing team points for Linfield with forfeit wins were
Max Vander Meide at 149 and
Hayden Briggs at 165.
Â
Perhaps the most intriguing contest of the evening came at 157 pounds. Freshman
Carlos Kisokwa went toe-to-toe with Pacific's Andrew Potter for the full seven minutes before succumbing by a 19-13 count. The match swung back and forth before settling at last in Potter's favor.
