Jacob Slifka successfully reclaimed his title in the discus, highlighting a successful first day of action at the Northwest Conference Track and Field Championships Friday at Willamette University's McCulloch Stadium.
Linfield's men sit in fourth place among nine competing programs. The Wildcat women, led by
Logan Roberts' runner-up finish in the high jump, sit in seventh place after Day 1.

Slifka's mark of 159 feet, 2 inches edged runner-up Luke Davis of Whitworth by two inches.

In the pole vault,
Ronan Krutzikowsky soared 13-10 to claim fifth place.

In the men's 10,000-meter run,
Alex Oathout clocked 32:53.76 to finish 11th in a field of 24 runners.

WOMEN
Roberts cleared 5-3¼ in the high jump to finish as the NWC runner-up in just her first season.

Makayla Erickson cut more than a minute off her previous best time in the 10,000 run. Her time of 39:28.16 earned the senior a fifth-place result.
