Linfield's title defense begins with George Fox in Newberg

THE RECORDS
Linfield enters its first series of Northwest Conference play with a 2-4 record while George Fox enters the week at 4-4.
 
LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
The Wildcats are looking to win their first series of the season following non-conference bouts with Pacific Lutheran and La Verne.
 
Jake Hoskins is off to an impressive start to his Linfield career. The transfer from Linn-Benton Community College is batting .458 on the season with a .536 on-base percentage and a .708 slugging percentage, all team-leading marks. He also leads the 'Cats with 11 hits, two home runs and 17 total bases. Linfield's catching depth is showing. Cage Hardy leads the team with five RBI while Brett Joner is batting .333 and caught two runners stealing.
 
Andrew Del Biaggio struck out a combined eight batters in his first two starts of the season. He's held opposing batters to a .278 batting average. Skyler Manelski has thrown 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief while fellow reliever Casey Struckmeier is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA.
 
GEORGE FOX AT A GLANCE
The Bruins were swept by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to open the season but have since won four of their last five games, which includes a 4-1 win over No. 7 Chapman. Noah Meffert is batting .500 with 12 hits and four RBI while Spencer Roos owns a .476 batting average. Both players are slugging over .700 and have on-base percentages over .500. Ethan Whitney is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings pitched as a starter. He leads the Bruins with 12 strikeouts while Travis Miller has 10.
 
THE SERIES
Linfield owns a narrow lead in the all-time series with George Fox, going 58-56 against the Bruins. The Wildcats are averaging 6.15 runs per game. The 'Cats won four of the five meetings between the two teams in 2022. The most recent meeting ended in a 15-9 win for the 'Cats in the first round of the NWC Tournament.
