Donaldson wins NWC Sprint Meet, Averill is a close second

McMINNVILLE, Ore. –Edan Donaldson posted the lowest combined time across five events, and Whitney Averill nearly matched Donaldson's dominance, leading the Linfield Wildcats at the season-opening Northwest Conference Sprint Meet Saturday at the Linfield Aquatics Center.

As a team, the Linfield women won the five-team competition. The Wildcat men were second among four competing teams.

MEN
Donaldson's time of 2:33.39 was more than three seconds faster than the next closest competitor. The mark blended together the five times of the 100-yard individual medley, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle. Donaldson was the top finisher in the butterfly, IM and backstroke.

Newcomer Connor Fery (2:40.91) placed fifth in his Linfield debut while sophomore Rocco Velie (2:40.91) was sixth.

Carson Washburn (12th in 2:47.13), Andrew Lee (16th in 2:48.14), and Ivan Tontchev (18th in 2:48.87) also claimed spots in the top 20. A total of 56 men competed in the exhibition meet.

WOMEN
Averill led a contingent of five Wildcats among the top 10 placers. Swimming in a field of 70 challengers, the Linfield senior came just over one second shy of winning the entire event, placing second behind George Fox's Riley Parker (2:59.58 to 3:00.95).

Individually, Averill won the 100 IM and was third overall in the 50 breaststroke.
