NEWBERG, Ore. – The Linfield women's tennis team completed its fall season at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall Regional tournament this past weekend.

Hosted by George Fox, the tournament featured top talent from across the Northwest Conference, of which the Wildcats were runners-up last season.

All seven members of Linfield's roster entered into singles play while three teams were submitted to the doubles tournament.
Â
SINGLES
Freshman
Samantha Baltz posted the strongest showing of any Wildcat in singles action, making a run to the semi-finals of the singles "B" draw.
Â
All three Wildcats entered into the B draw received first-round byes. In the second round, Baltz quickly set a tone with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Whitworth's Olivia Corbett.

From there, she rallied to a three-set win after a shaky opening frame in the third round over Kaylah Tan of Whitman, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. She then edged out George Fox's Shanah Denham for a quarterfinals win in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 before losing in the semi-final to eventual B draw champion Mia Yamaguchi of Pacific, 6-1, 6-2.

Sophomore
Lisa Ponti cruised to a second-round win, 6-0, 6-0 over Pacific's Anna Emerson before falling to Clara Todd of Whitworth 6-2, 6-4.
Ponti headed to the third round consolation bracket, where she beat Whitman's Grace Carter before falling to Sophie Denham of George Fox, who went on to win the bracket.

Freshman
Emily Redwood also had an impressive opening round, beating Angel Nguyen of Pacific 6-0, 6-2 before losing in the third round against Lewis & Clark's Haley Kreps.

In the "A" draw junior
Emma Tuttle was the only Wildcat to win a round in the main bracket by beating Whitworth's Paige Oliver in a tiebreaking third-set, winning the round 3-6, 6-4, 12-10.

But Tuttle then faced Whitman's Teleya Blunt in the second round, falling 6-2, 6-2. In the second-round consolation bracket Tuttle lost in the first round to Sascha Wells, also of Whitman, 6-2, 6-1.

The three other Wildcats entered into the A draw all lost in the opening round.

Senior
Sarah Forester fell 7-6, 6-2 to George Fox's Elizabeth Cook and headed to the first-round consolation bracket. There she won her first round match flight but then lost in the second to Juliene Thompson of Whitman.

Junior
Alexis Garner fell in three sets to Riley Bobkiewicz of George Fox, 6-2, 5-7, 10-3 and was sent to the consolation bracket, where she lost in her first flight to eventual first-round consolation bracket winner Susanna Anand of Lewis & Clark.

Freshman Kaitlyn Canubida lost a tight three set match in her first contest of the main draw to Lewis & Clark's Seraphina Vossen, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8, but then went on to impress in the consolation bracket, reaching the semi-finals.

Canubida cruised to 6-0, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-1 wins before falling to Willamette's Alex De Crinis 6-1, 7-5 in the consolation semis.

DOUBLES
Linfield entered Forester and Tuttle, Baltz and Ponti and Canubida and Garner as doubles pairing for the tournament.

Canubida and Garner were the only duo to win a round, topping Whitworth's Audrey Judson and Natalie Budge 8-4 in the first but then falling to Pacific's Stella Nishimura and Sofia Mazzola by the same score in the second round.

Forester and Tuttle faced a tough draw as they went up against George Fox's sibling duo of Sophia and Shanah Denham, dropping a tight 8-7 battle.

Linfield's most veteran pairing headed to consolation competition where they cruised to win the bracket. They faced teammates Baltz and Ponti in the semi's before handily beating Whitman's Erica Mock and Kayla Tan in the final, 8-1.

Baltz and Ponti fell in the first round of the main draw 8-2 to Lewis & Clark's top pairng of Anand and Vossen, who would go on to reach the tourney semi-finals.

In the consolation bracket Baltz and Ponti won their first two contests before falling to Forester and Tuttle.

Linfield now heads into their winter offseason, resting and training for spring competition beginning in December.
