Six former athletes, each with impressive playing careers, have been selected for induction this fall into the Linfield Athletics Hall of Fame. The honorees will be enshrined Saturday, November 5, in Ted Wilson Gymnasium following that afternoon's football game.
The 24th Linfield Athletics Hall of Fame class includes Matt Craven '97, Staci Doucette '12, Drew Fisher '12, Kasey (Kuenzli) Williams '08, Amy Peterson '97 and Sonté Wong '01. The induction banquet, presented by Pacific Office Automation, begins at 6 p.m. with a social hour starting at 5 p.m. Tickets are expected to go on sale in August.
Here are short summaries of each honoree's remarkable Linfield career:
•Matt Craven, track and field, football: Craven was a five-time NAIA track and field All-American and a two-time national runner-up in the pole vault. On the football field, he recorded 126 tackles over four seasons, finishing his career as a first team all-Northwest Conference cornerback.
•Staci Doucette, softball: Doucette established a Division III record with 73 career home runs while shattering more than a dozen Linfield single-season and career records. As a junior in 2011, she powered the Wildcats to the 2011 NCAA championship and also led Linfield to national runner-up finishes in 2010 and 2012. Doucette was a four-time first team All-American.
•Drew Fisher, football: Linfield's leading tackler for three straight seasons, Fisher was recognized as the 2011 NWC Defensive Player of the Year and was a three-time Division III All-American. He was a member of four straight NWC championship teams and helped Linfield reach the 2009 Division III semifinals.
•Kasey (Kuenzli) Williams, women's tennis: A member of four consecutive Northwest Conference championship teams and a three-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American, Williams is Linfield's all-time singles and doubles career wins leader. As a senior in 2008, she was the No. 1 player on the Wildcats' NCAA regional tournament team and went on to represent Linfield as an individual at the NCAA Division III Championships.
•Amy Peterson, volleyball: Peterson was a force for the Wildcats volleyball program at the outside hitter position over four straight seasons. The three-time Northwest Conference all-star finished her career as Linfield's all-time leader in kills, attacks, service aces, points and sets played. More than 25 years after her graduation, Peterson's 27 kills in a 1996 contest with Pacific Lutheran remains as the all-time single-match record.
•Sonté Wong '01, track and field, football: Wong placed fifth nationally in the triple jump, earning NAIA All-America honors, and was ninth in the long jump. He claimed conference titles in the 100-meter dash, 200 dash, 110 hurdles and 4x100 relay. Wong holds the Linfield record in the triple jump, one of his six marks that continue to rank among the top 10 in Linfield track and field history. In football, the dual-threat wide receiver/punt returner was a first team all-conference performer at both positions, finishing his career with 1,477 all-purpose yards.
Each Linfield Athletics Hall of Fame induction class is selected annually by a 20-member selection committee comprised of Linfield athletics staff, past Hall of Fame inductees and former athletes representing each of the past five decades.
