Linfield baseball needed a bounce-back season from
Colton Meyer in 2022, and the team got just that as the hard-throwing lefty led the Wildcats to a share of their first Northwest Conference regular season championship since 2017.
Â
Meyer was the lone relief pitcher selected as a D3baseball.com First Team All-Region 10 honoree. He joins Lewis & Clark's Jack Thomson and Puget Sound's Shane Himeda and Dylan Joyce as the NWC's representatives with first-team honors. Thomson was named the Region 10 Player of the Year. Centenary's (La.) Tyler Herrera was tabbed as both the Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year while Trinity (Texas) skipper Tim Scannell earned Coach of the Year honors.
Â
Meyer also earned selection to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Region 10 Second Team. He's the first Linfield player to earn All-Region honors since the 2018 season, when Ryan Ross earned recognition from both D3baseball.com and the ABCA.Â
Â
As a junior in 2021, Meyer posted an 0-7 record with a 6.82 ERA. He transitioned from the starting rotation and became a full-time bullpen arm in 2022, thriving in his new role as Linfield's primary closer. He earned First Team All-NWC honors and was selected as the NWC Pitcher of the Year, making him the seventh Wildcat to win the award and the first since Cason Cunningham in 2017.
Â
Meyer finished his senior campaign with a 4-0 record and seven saves, which rank second in the NWC and 20
th in Division III. The Silverton, Oregon, native led the NWC with a 1.63 ERA and a .167 opposing batting average. He struck out 53 batters in 19 appearances and allowed just seven runs all year.
