Mr. Do-It-All, graduate student
Keaton Wood of the track and field program has been named the Male Athlete of the Year for 2021-22.
Â
The runner-up in the men's heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, Wood captured All-America status by scoring 5,185 points, trailing only the 5,484 points of the national champion, Ryan Rogers of Loras College.
Â
Wood posted personal records in 11 events during the 2022 outdoor season, including his 7,254 points scored in the decathlon at the Jim Klein Multi-Events, which earned the Lake Oswego, Oregon, native recognition as the USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Men's National Athlete of the Week. The mark leads all of Division III, with the next best competitor turning in 7,193 points. The mark also surpassed a 12-year-old Linfield record of 7,125 points held by recent Linfield Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Josh Lovell.
Â
Competing in the decathlon while winning an individual event and running in two winning relays, Wood was honored as the Men's Track Athlete of the Meet at the NWC Outdoor Championships. He won the 110-meter hurdles, his specialty event, in 14.66 seconds, taking top honors in the event by nearly a full second.
Â
Wood leads the Northwest Conference in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.07 seconds while also ranking first in the conference in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.60 seconds. Both times are personal bests. He is second in the NWC in the 200-meter dash (22.22) and is a member of Linfield's 4x100 (42.14) and 4x400-meter (3:23.68) relay squads that put up top times in the conference this spring.
