It's not every year that the postseason field is complete the day before the big tournament, but the last three years haven't been normal.
Linfield baseball enters the 2022 Northwest Conference Tournament as the No. 2 seed and will play third-seeded George Fox in the first round. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. on Friday at Pacific University's Chuck Bafaro Stadium. Top-seeded and host Pacific will play No. 4 Pacific Lutheran at noon to open the tourney.
HOW THEY GOT HERE
In a win-and-in series finale against Pacific Lutheran, the Wildcats stunned the Lutes with a 5-1 win in Tacoma to clinch a NWC Tournament berth for the first time since 2018. With a Pacific loss to George Fox later that afternoon, Linfield shocked the conference and claimed a share of the NWC regular season championship with the Boxers. It's the program's first regular season title since 2017.
The 'Cats finished tied atop the NWC standings under third-year head coach
Dan Spencer despite being picked eighth in the NWC Preseason Coaches Poll. Pacific earned the top spot in the tournament and hosting rights with a head-to-head tiebreaker over the 'Cats after taking two of three games on March 26-27 in McMinnville.
LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
The Wildcats have won three straight NWC series and seven of their last 10 games. They have a better record on the road (10-6) than at home (8-9). The 'Cats are batting .270 as a team and own a 4.53 ERA and .970 fielding percentage.
