Wildcats wrap up season against Lutes, Bearcats

The 2021-22 season is coming to an end for the Linfield women's basketball team as the Wildcats take on two more games in Northwest Conference action.
 
The Wildcats will make the trip up to Tacoma, Washington, to take on Pacific Lutheran for the second time in nine days. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. on Friday. They will then return home to wrap up the season on Senior Day, hosting Willamette at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Ted Wilson Gymnasium. THE RECORDS
Linfield enters the week at 1-21 overall and 1-13 in Northwest Conference play. Pacific Lutheran is 6-15 overall and 3-11 in NWC play while Willamette is 11-12 overall with a 6-8 NWC mark to sit tied for fifth place with Lewis & Clark.
 
LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
The Wildcats went winless in three games last week against Pacific, Pacific Lutheran and George Fox. Freshman forward Gillyan Landis ranks eighth in the NWC with 12 points per game while also ranking 11th with 5.7 rebounds per game. Landis averaged 17.3 points and eight rebounds per game last week, finishing just short of double-doubles against the Boxers and Bruins. Landis leads the NWC with 29 blocks while freshman guard Emma Schmerbach is second with 24. Schmerbach is averaging 8.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game to go with a team-leading 26 steals. Freshman forward Elyse Waldal leads the team with 19 three-pointers.
 
PACIFIC LUTHERAN AT A GLANCE
The Lutes rank fourth in the NWC with 6.5 three-pointers per game. Freshman Josie Napoli is fourth in the conference with 14.6 points per game and second with an 86.4 free throw percentage. She leads the NWC with 100 assists, 4.8 per game. Sophomore Ava Edmonds is averaging 11.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, both marks ranking in the NWC's top 10. Freshman Maddie Plevyak is scoring 9.9 points per game. 
 
WILLAMETTE AT A GLANCE
The Bearcats snapped a three-game skid with a win over fourth-place George Fox in Newberg. Graduate student Amanda Carpenter is the team's leading scorer with 11 points per game to go with 5.1 rebounds per game. Sophomore Ava Kitchin is just short of double figures with 9.9 points per game. She ranks sixth in the NWC with six rebounds per game. Fellow sophomore Carolyn Ho is third in the NWC with 42 steals, seventh with 57 assists and fourth with a 48.9 field goal percentage.
 
HISTORY
Linfield has won 26 of its 75 meetings with Pacific Lutheran. The Wildcats are 12-24 against the Lutes in Tacoma but have won nine of the last 12 matchups. The Lutes took the first meeting of the season with a narrow 66-61 win on Feb. 9 in McMinnville.
 
Linfield and Willamette have met 77 times in their in-state rivalry. The Wildcats are 40-37 against the Bearcats, including 25-12 at home. The Wildcats have won four of the last 10 matchups. The Bearcats took the first meeting of the season, winning 70-50 on Jan. 21 in Salem.
