McNabb Ahmann SAOTW

McNabb goes back-to-back, Ahmann earns first NWC weekly award

Linfield football outscored its opponents 217-17 over the course of the last four weeks of Northwest Conference play. The Wildcats completed a perfect 9-0 regular season, claiming their 38th NWC championship and 31st won outright.

The Wildcats picked up two more honorees in the final weekly awards of the season. Senior running back Connor McNabb was named the NWC Football Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week while freshman kicker Nolan Ahmann earned his first Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week award.

Now a two-time First Team All-NWC selection, McNabb secured his second straight Student-Athlete of the Week award. He previously earned the honor following a two-touchdown outing in Linfield's 37-10 road win over George Fox on Oct. 29. There were no Student-Athlete of the Week selections last week.

McNabb rushed for a career-high 182 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns in the Wildcats' 70-7 win at Lewis & Clark in the regular season finale. He averaged 15.2 yards per carry on 12 attempts with a long run of 60 yards to open the scoring in the first quarter. He also caught a pass for eight yards. The 'Cats rushed for 452 yards against the Pioneers, a mark that ranks No. 2 in program history.

Linfield piled on 10 touchdowns against the Pios. The 'Cats didn't have to punt all afternoon and only attempted one field goal. Because of all the scoring, the 'Cats kicked off a lot. Ahmann kicked off seven times for 413 yards, averaging 59 yards per kick. Two of his kickoffs were for touchbacks.

The 'Cats earned the NWC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs and will host SCIAC champion Pomona-Pitzer in a first-round matchup on Saturday at Maxwell Field. Kickoff against the Sagehens is set for 12:05 p.m. PST.
