Swanson Stoneking SAOTW

Swanson, Stoneking selected as Student-Athletes of the Week

The Linfield Wildcats chopped down the Puget Sound Loggers with a 72-2 rout on Saturday at Maxwell Field.

The 'Cats were dominant in all three phases of the game, particularly on defense and special teams. For their efforts, Travis Swanson and Maclain Stoneking earned weekly honors from the Northwest Conference on Monday.

Swanson was named the NWC Football Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. He also earned the award back on Sept. 5 following Linfield's season-opening win over Huntingdon College. The graduate student defensive end and reigning NWC Defensive Player of the Year had five tackles, all solo, to go with a pair of sacks against the Loggers. He ranks third in Division III with 1.83 sacks per game.

Stoneking was also selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Monday. The sophomore returned six UPS punts for 179 yards, surpassing the previous Linfield single-game record of 129 yards, set by Amancio Agcaoili in 1995. Stoneking nearly tied the program single-season punt return touchdowns record in one game. He returned two punts for touchdowns in the second quarter, the first for 82 yards and the second for 59. He nearly had a third touchdown in the third quarter, but it was called back due to a penalty on the other side of the field. The single-season punt return touchdowns record is three, set by All-American Kennedy Johnson in 2015.

Linfield (3-0, 1-0 NWC) will make the trip to Spokane, Washington, for the first time since the 'Cats clinched the NWC title in 2019. The 'Cats will take on the Whitworth Pirates (3-1, 1-0 NWC) at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Pine Bowl.
