Linfield shines on Sunday to win Wildcat Invitational

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Linfield women's golf team won its first tournament of the year this weekend, taking first place at the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Michelbook Country Club in just the second competition of the fall.

The Wildcats performed well as the host team, placing all four scoring players in the top-10 of the four-team, 22-player tournament. The 'Cats shot a 388 on Saturday but pulled away from the pack on Sunday with a 374, 12 strokes better than any of their opponents. They won with a final team score of 762, 30 strokes ahead of second-place Puget Sound (792). Lewis & Clark finished in third place at 804 while Pacific was fourth at 867.

The 'Cats were led by senior Raegan Barr, who placed third with a final score of 181, 10 strokes better than any other Wildcat. Barr shot a 95 on Saturday but dropped nine strokes on Sunday. Her Sunday score of 86 was second on the day only to Kamryn Ford of Lewis & Clark, who claimed the individual title at 156.

Barr was followed by freshman Hannah Hughes, who tied for fifth with scores of 92 and 99 for a total of 191. Hughes continued an impressive start to her collegiate career after leading the Wildcats at the season-opening Pacific Lutheran Invitational last weekend.

Sophomore Caitlin Hillman and freshman Tori Schuller both finished in the top-10 as well thanks to strong Sunday improvements. Hillman shot 195 with a 101 on Saturday and a 94 on Sunday for an eighth-place finish. Schuller had the biggest second-day improvement of any Wildcat, shaving 10 strokes off her opening score of 105 by improving to a 95 on Sunday. Her total score of 200 was good enough for a ninth-place finish. Sophomore Frances Remmick just missed the top-10, finishing in 11th place at 202.

Junior Ashley Hart and freshmen Bella Evans and Sasha Carey competed as individuals for the Wildcats. Hart had the best performance of the group, finishing 13th with a total score of 210. Evans finished 17th at 226 while Carey finished 20th at 235.
