Travis Swanson

Swanson selected as CoSIDA Academic All-American

Linfield University senior defensive lineman Travis Swanson has been appointed to the Academic All-America Division III Football team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Swanson is among 51 honorees from Division III and the only honoree from the Northwest Conference as well as all Division III institutions along the West Coast.

Swanson holds a GPA of 3.88. A native of Hailey, Idaho, and graduate of Wood River High School, he is a psychology major and plans on attending medical school after this fall.

On the gridiron, he has totaled 83 total tackles over two seasons for the Wildcats. He has accounted for 21 tackles for loss, including 9.5 sacks. He was named a first team all-Northwest Conference defensive lineman in 2019 and earned second team all-NWC acclaim in 2018.

"Travis has really developed himself into a tremendous football player," said coach Joseph Smith. "He has great size and power to go along with tremendous body control and athleticism. We are very proud of his prowess in the classroom as well, as he has put the same attention to detail and work ethic into his academics.

"We are very proud of Travis and I know I personally look forward to watching him compete this fall on Saturdays when it counts."

Swanson is only the 21st Linfield Student-Athlete to achieve CoSIDA Academic All-America status since 2004 and the fifth Linfield football student-athlete. In 2019, fellow Wildcat Wyatt Smith and women's soccer recent graduate Sydney Kuehn were named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
