Wildcats face Bruins in regular season finale

MATCH PREVIEW

The Linfield tennis teams end their 2021 regular season against George Fox on Saturday. For the women, the Northwest Conference regular-season title will be decided Saturday at 11 a.m. in Newberg, Oregon. For the men, the Wildcats take on the conference leader at the Linfield Tennis Center on 10 a.m.

A live video webcast is available for the women's match at George Fox as well as the men's match at Linfield, if it is played inside Rustchman Fieldhouse.
 
THE LINFIELD WOMEN
The Wildcats picked up conference wins over the Puget Sound Loggers and the Pacific Boxers last week to improve their conference record to 7-0. Linfield is 9-2 overall. A win on Saturday would clinch Linfield's fourth-straight undefeated season in conference matches and fourth-straight conference championship.
 
Playing at the top doubles spot for the Wildcats all season have been Tessa Kern and Lexie Matsunaga. The pair have fashioned an 8-1 doubles record this spring. Kern is 4-1 in singles and Matsunaga is 7-4. The second doubles pairing of Haley Fujimori and Taryn Fujimori are 7-1 as a duo. Taryn Fujimori is 6-5 in singles and Haley Fujimori is 9-1.
 
Maggie Fiocchi and Allena Wong have played the most matches together at third doubles and together, they are 5-0. Fiocchi is 7-2 in singles, Wong is 7-1 and Sarah Forester is 7-0.
 
This is the first meeting between the two teams in over two years. The Wildcats won 9-0 in Newberg on April 14, 2019. Linfield has never lost to George Fox in 41 documented meetings.
 
THE WILDCATS MEN
Linfield went 1-1 in its matches against Pacific and Puget Sound last week. The Wildcats fell to the Boxers at home and won 7-2 in Tacoma over the Loggers. Linfield is 3-4 in conference play and 3-7 overall.
 
Blake Fuentes Gilbert won 6-0, 6-1 in singles over Puget Sound. He is 6-3 in doubles along with teammate Josef Shum. The pair won their doubles match by a score of 8-5 on Sunday.
 
Michael Manion and Cameron Ventura won 8-4 at first doubles against the Loggers. The duo is 5-5 this season. Manion won 6-2, 6-1 and Ventura won 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) in singles on Sunday.
 
The Wildcats have matched Will Worth and Ethan Myers all season at No. 2 doubles where they have put together a 5-4 record. Isaac Milner is 4-3 in singles.
 
THE GEORGE FOX WOMEN
The Bruins have been the surprise team of the NWC this season. George Fox is 8-1 thus far and 5-1 in conference matches. The Bruins have one match remaining after this weekend – a home contest against Lewis & Clark on April 30.
 
Sophia Lawrence and Laney Search have played at first doubles for the majority of the season where the two are 4-2. Ellie Mangan and Olivia Morris are 5-1 at second doubles. Danielle Brown and Taylor Morris are 4-0 at third doubles.
 
Mangan is 5-1 in singles, Morris is 4-0, Search is 3-1 and Alyssa Byde is 5-0.
 
THE BRUINS MEN
George Fox is 6-0 in conference matches and coming off its first win over Whitman in program history. Will Leach has played at the first singles spot and is 8-1 this season. He and teammate Luke Lemaitre are 6-3 in doubles.
 
Lemaitre is 5-4 at second singles  and Alle Banna is 6-4 in singles. Camden Camoacho and Vahag Pashayan are 4-0 at third doubles.
 
The Wildcats are 25-16 against the Bruins all-time, however, the Bruins have won the last 11 meetings.
 
UP NEXT
The women have qualified for the NWC Postseason Tournament on May 8-9. The winner of Saturday's match will serve as host for the postseason tournament.
