Three members of the Linfield University men's tennis have been named Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes and the team as a whole was named an ITA All-Academic Team, the organization announced on Wednesday morning.
Â
"One of our major program goals is to be an All-Academic team each year. I'm very proud of the way our guys kept their focus through adversity this year. This award means a great deal," said Wildcats coach
Ben Belletto.
Â
The team posted a GPA of 3.35 in the Spring term this past year, meeting the criteria of a minimum team GPA of 3.20 to be named an ITA All-Academic Team.
Â
In addition to the team award,
Michael Manion,
Ethan Myers and
Cameron Ventura were individually highlighted as ITA Scholar Athletes. A student-athlete must have a higher GPA than 3.50 and be academically eligible throughout the academic year.
Â
"Michael and Ethan have come in to our program and have made such immediate and lasting impacts, both on the court and in the classroom. Cameron is an effortless leader and tremendous role model. He sets the tone for our team in terms of expectations," added Belletto.
Â
Across NCAA Division III, 125 men's tennis teams received the ITA All-Academic Team distinction and 958 student-athletes achieved the ITA Scholar Athlete honor.
