Linfield College's
Keaton Wood has been invited to compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Â
The meet is hosted by Guilford College at the JDL Fast Track facility.
Â
Wood, a senior from Lake Oswego's Lakeridge High School, is scheduled to complete in the men's heptathlon beginning Friday.
Â
The heptathlon starts with the 60-meter dash on Friday, followed by the long jump, shot put and high jump. It concludes with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run on Saturday.
Â
Wood enters the meet with an entry mark of 4,740 points, achieved in late January at the George Fox/University of Portland Indoor. He is ranked 18th among NCAA Division III athletes in the heptathlon.
Â
Wood competed in the men's decathlon at last year's NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships but was forced to withdraw from competition after suffering a knee injury.
Â
With his injury fully healed, Wood is hopeful of placing among the top eight finalists.
Â
"If Keaton puts it all together, I really believe he can be an All-American," said Linfield coach
Travis Olson. "He's definitely had his share of tough breaks in his career. But he picks things up so quickly and he really works tremendously hard. He's such a good athlete, it would not surprise me if he's on the podium this weekend."
