Oleson and Schutz shine in loss to the Loggers

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Kory Oleson and Cassidy Schutz score in double-figures for the Linfield Wildcats, who fell 83-61 to the Puget Sound Loggers at Ted Wilson Gym on Friday night.

Linfield is now 5-6 in Northwest Conference play, sitting in a tie for fourth place with Willamette, who Linfield has already beat once this season. Puget Sound improves to 4-7 in conference play, in a three-way tie for sixth place and just one game out of the final spot in the NWC Tournament.

Puget Sound led throughout the game, but outscored Linfield 42-26 in the second half to win this one. Jamie Lange led the Loggers with 23 points and seven rebounds. The Wildcats were able to get Lange, one of the best rebounders in Northwest Conference history in early foul trouble, but she managed to score 23 points in just 17 minutes played.

Mara Handerson was the other standout for the Loggers, scoring 22 points and six rebounds.

Linfield was exceptional at getting to the free-throw line all game and converting from the stripe. The Wildcats shot 23 for 25 from the free-throw line, including Oleson who went nine for 10.

Schutz missed her career-high in points by just one point, scoring 15 on Friday night. She also added five rebounds, two assists and a steal. She tied her career-best mark of three made three-pointers in a game.

Oleson scored 17 in the game and added three blocks and four rebounds, she is nearly two points per game ahead of any other scorer in the Northwest Conference, averaging 17.8 points per game, while the second-place scorer averages 16 points per game.

Delaney Ragan was the third-leading scorer for the Wildcats, adding seven points and seven rebounds. The Portland, Oregon, native is averaging 7.5 rebounds per game in her last two games.

The Puget Sound defense held Linfield to shot 34 percent in the game, while the Puget Sound offense shot 55.4 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from outside the arc, which is the highest percentage Linfield has allowed all season.
