Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. – Being down one set and trailing early in the second, the Linfield Wildcats fought back to tie the match, but the Hamline Pipers won the next two sets to take the match on Saturday morning.
The Wildcats fall to 1-2 on the season, while the Pipers improve to 2-1 on the season.
The two teams exchanged the first few points of the match, before the Pipers took control of the first set with a 12- 2 run and won the set.
The Pipers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set, but an attack error turned the momentum around for the Wildcats as they won the next seven points of the set highlighted by a kill by
Raelynn Hammock.
Dominating the second set, a kill by
Megan Stanek gave Linfield a 24-15 lead in the second, but Hamline fought back, winning the next eight points, but an attack error by Hamline gave Linfield the set to tie the match.
Early starts in sets were a key for the Pipers, who jumped to a 10-2 lead, but a Pipers' service error allowed the Wildcats get back in the set, winning six of the next nine points.
Clawing back in the third, the Wildcats were just down by five, when they went out of rotation and the Pipers winning the next four and doubling their lead and winning the third set 25-12.
In the fourth frame, the Pipers jumped to a 3-0 lead once again, but a kill by Hammock helped the Wildcats get back into the set and tie it at three.
Despite that rally from the Wildcats, the Pipers kept their composure and won 10 of the next 13 and had their eyes set on the match win.
Being down 22-13 in the fourth, the Wildcats fought back to bring it within six, but the Pipers were too strong and won the set, 25-15.
The big difference between the two sides was hit percentage as Hamline 25.2 percent of its attacks, while Linfield was only able to hit 6.8 percent.
Hammock continued to shine in her young collegiate career, finishing with 11 kills and two blocks.
