PORTLAND, Ore. – In the final match of the Oregon Trail Classic, the Linfield Wildcats fell to the Central (Iowa) Dutch 3-0 and fall to 1-3 on the young season.
Â
After winning the first match of the Oregon Trail Classic against Methodist, Linfield dropped the next three matches.
Â
The first set was tied at two, when the Wildcats had errors in three of the next four points to give the early advantage to the Dutch, who converted the opportunity to win the first set, 25-16.
Â
Like the first set where Linfield hurt itself, the Wildcats had three errors in a row with the second set tied at 11, which allowed the Dutch to control the pace of the set and win 25-19.
Â
The big runs in the middle of the first two sets by the Dutch reduced the chances for the Wildcats to come back in the match and ultimately led to the Dutch win.
Â
The most competitive set of the match was the third set when a kill by
Kayla Moss gave Linfield a 12-8 lead, forcing Central to call a timeout.
Â
Coming out of the timeout, the Dutch won the six of the next eight points to grab the lead in the set, the Wildcats had another fight in them as they jumped out to a 19-16 lead, but a 9-3 run was enough for the Dutch to win the match.
Â
The poor accuracy on attack was the demise of the Wildcats once again as they just hit .033 percent of their attacks, whereas the Dutch landed .255 of their attacks.
Â
Freshman
Raelynn Hammock finished just three kills shy of her first career double-double, the Oakridge, Oregon product grabbed 14 digs to go along with her seven kills.
Â
Freshman
Kayla Moss had career high five kills in her first real collegiate game as she played only a handful of points on Friday against Methodist.
Â
Freshman outside hitter
Aylea Dixon set up her teammates perfectly with 13 assists.
