'Cats close out the season on a high note

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – As the season comes to a close the Wildcats were able to end on a high note as they took down the Bearcats of Willamette at home on senior day. Linfield ends the season 8-7 overall and 4-4 in Northwest Conference play.

The Wildcats started out on top as they won all three of the double's points. Nathan Saragoza and Luis Rojas battled for their win at the number one position with an 8(4) -7 victory. The duo of Cameron Ventura and Trent Prussing wont their match easily at the number three spot.

In singles play Eric Rutherford picked up the Wildcats' first win at the sixth position with a 6-1, 6-0 win then Jacob Mangan clinched the match with a victory at the number five position. Prussing, Rojas, and Saragoza all collected wins in singles play as well.

Coach Belletto's Thoughts

"Today was a great representation of what this senior class means to our program. Each senior contributed today. This was our best start so far in my career. We came out firing, winning 12 of the first 13 games in doubles. The start helped us grab a 3-0 lead going into singles," said head coach Ben Belletto.

"The doubles were played inside while the courts dried, and then we shifted outside. It was fitting that we were able to use all 9 courts today. In singles, Eric Rutherford quickly secured our 4th point. Jake Mangan clinched the win, and in so doing, moved up to 13th on the career singles win list," added Belletto.

Belletto concluded, "I'm so proud of everything this group has accomplished, individually, and for this program. With this win, we secured a winning season, which has not been done in a long time. Before this group of seniors, the team had won one match in the previous four years. This group has laid an incredible foundation here."
