WHITTIER, CALIF. – Despite scoring the first three runs of the game, the Linfield Wildcats fell to the Whitter Poets, 14-5 at Memorial Field. The final game of a four-game road trip, the 'Cats went 1-3 in Southern California over the weekend. The non-conference loss drops Linfield to 6-26 overall in 2019. Whitter has now won back-to-back games and improves to 17-15 this season.
RECAP
- Linfield raced to an early lead in the second inning. Alec Cook reached an error, Levi Horner-Villa scored from third on the play.
- Horner-Villa homered for the fourth time this season in the third. The two-run blast gave Linfield a 3-0 lead.
- The Poets got on the board and took the lead in the bottom of the third. Nick Krska doubled down the left field line and scored two to cut the lead down to one. Later in the inning, Whitter tied the game on a single through the left side from Dane Goodman that scored Krska.
- Whitter went on to score five in the third and took a 5-3 lead at the end of the frame.
- The Poets would extend the lead to 11-3 at the end of the fifth inning.
- David Brosius started on the mound for the 'Cats. He threw three innings where he allowed five runs on six hits and struck out one.
- The 'Cats plated two more runs in the sixth. Brian Cromwell singled to left and scored Cameron Fox from third. Kurt Potter followed suit with a single down the right field line that brought in Alec Cook.
- Whittier added three more runs in the eighth and went on to win 14-5.
NEXT
Linfield's scheduled Tuesday nonconference game at home against Pacific has been postponed with no makeup date announced. The Wildcats' next game is Friday afternoon in Spokane when they'll face the NWC-leading Whitworth Pirates at noon. The teams then play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
