CALDWELL, Idaho – In a rare occurrence where two non-conference play a home-and-home series, the College of Idaho Yotes bested the Linfield Wildcats, 65-61 at home on Saturday night.
Molly Danielson led the way with her fifth double-double of the season for the Wildcats but it was not enough against the Yotes.
Playing the Yotes for the second time this season, the Wildcats jumped out to a 7-0 led thanks to a three pointer from
Delaney Ragan and maintained that early edge for the rest of the quarter. Ragan had 12 points, two rebounds and a steal.
Linfield led 15-12 in the waning seconds of the first quarter, but the College of Idaho scored with zero seconds remaining and with a defensive foul by Linfield on the shot, the game was tied at 15 through the first 10 minutes.
Makenna Schritter of the Yotes had 11 first half points and she helped her team outscore the Wildcats, 15-11 in the second quarter to lead 30-26 at the break. Schritter had 14 points and nine rebounds in the whole game.
Linfield started the third quarter on a 9-2 run to retake the lead on a three pointer by Ragan and extended it to 37-32 at the halfway point of the quarter via a jumper by
Cassidy Schutz, who had eight points, three assists and a steal.
The Yotes came back to tie the third quarter at 47, but a jumper by
Kory Oleson helped the Wildcats take a 49-47 lead into the fourth quarter. Oleson had 12 points, three rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.
The College of Idaho won the first meeting 70-66 between these two schools and lead 57-54 in the fourth quarter on Saturday, but Linfield tied the game on a three-pointer by Schutz.
Outscoring Linfield 18-12 in the final quarter, the College of Idaho swept the season series, winning this one 65-61.
Reigning Northwest Conference Women's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week, Danielson continued to be a force for the Wildcats with 17 points, 12 rebounds, two steals and a block, this was her fifth double-double of the season and she has scored at least 17 points in the last three games.
Coming off the bench,
Paige LaFountain had two points, two blocks, four rebounds and a steal.
Rounding out the starting lineup for Linfield,
Jordyn Feinauer had five points and two assists.
Linfield falls to 4-3 on the season, having lost both games to the College of Idaho this season, the margin was four points in both games and the Wildcats had the lead going into the fourth quarter in both games.
The Wildcats left some points on the board at the free-throw line missing 12 free-throws and shooting just 52 percent.
From the field, Linfield shot 21 of 48 for 44 percent, while the College of Idaho shot 22 of 68 for 32 percent.
