Box Score McMINNVILLE, Ore. — In their third match of the season, the Linfield Wildcats stormed past the Community Colleges of Spokane 7-2 Saturday at the Linfield Tennis Center to capture their first victory of the season.

Following the win, the Wildcats overall record improves to 1-2.

"We were able to showcase our depth today, allow some guys to step up into different positions and get some great match experience," Linfield coach Ben Belletto said.

Doubles
The 'Cats emerged victorious in all three doubles pairings. In the closet doubles competition of the day, Jacob Mangan and J.T. Barcellos edged Kyle Smithgal and Marshal Coleman 7-6 at No. 2. In top-flight doubles, Eric Rutherford and Luis Rojas teamed up to defeat Sean Singco and Bryce Robison 6-4. Cameron Ventura and Thomas Foy handily beat Gavin Hewett and Christian Flannery 6-1 at No. 3.

"Luis and Eric started playing aggressive and intelligent doubles, and the rest of our teams started embodying the identity we talk about playing with," Belletto said.

Singles
Barcellos assumed the No. 1 singles position for the Wildcats and came away victorious over Singco 4-6, 7-6 (6-4), 12-10. Trent Prussing beat Smithgal 6-2, 6-2 to secure a victory for the 'Cats at No. 2.

At No. 3 singles, Rutherford downed Flannery 6-1, 6-0. And John Lutaaya beat Coleman 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4.

Niamh Lakewolf and Robison were the lone victors for the Community Colleges of Spokane. Lakewolf beat Ventura 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5, and Robison downed Foy 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.

"J.T. showed great toughness and resiliency playing at No. 1 singles," Belletto said. "Eric was impressive and efficient on the court. John really found his rhythm. There were plenty of positives even in the two matches we didn't win. Thomas and Cameron have improved so much in such a short time."
