Veterans from all five branches of the military will be honored at Linfield College's final regular-season home football game, Saturday, Nov. 10. The recognition comes on Veteran's Day weekend, and on the 243rd birthday of the US Marine Corps.
All veterans presenting valid military identification at the gate will be admitted free of charge.
The Linfield Marching Band will team with the McMinnville High School Marching Band in performing the Star Spangled Banner.
In conjunction with the national anthem, a scheduled flyover at 12:58 p.m. by two U.S. Air Force F-15 fighter jets from the Airguard Fighter Wing is expected to make the national anthem all the more stirring.
The Linfield football team plays Pacific University at 1 p.m. in the annual Pacific Office Automation Hall of Fame Game.
Two hours prior to kickoff, a Black Hawk helicopter piloted by the Oregon National Guard, is scheduled to land on the baseball outfield, adjacent to Maxwell Field, and will remain on site throughout the game. Fans are invited get a close-up look at the Black Hawk, which is capable of lifting 8,000 pounds and can carry 16 air-to-air missiles.
At halftime, the Linfield Marching Band is expected to perform a medley of military theme songs, including Anchors Aweigh; The Caissons Go Rolling Along; the Wild Blue Yonder; the Marine Corps Hymn; and Semper Paratus. As the band plays each song, members of each respective military branch will be invited to stand and be recognized.
