Brett Elliott

Brett Elliott

Brett Elliott is in his sixth season as offensive coordinator and ninth year as quarterbacks coach at Linfield.

In 2019, under Elliott's tutelage, Linfield quarterback Wyatt Smith broke numerous passing records and the Wildcats led NCAA Division III in passing yards per game. The Northwest Conference Player of the Year, Smith was a two-time finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, presented annually to the top football player in Division III.

As quarterbacks coach at Linfield from 2009 until 2011, Elliott helped the Wildcats advance to at least the second round of the NCAA playoffs each of those three three seasons. From 2012 to 2018, Elliott worked as quarterbacks coach at Texas State and Mississippi State and previously held co-offensive coordinator positions at Texas State and James Madison.

As a player, Elliott is arguably the most decorated player in Linfield football history. Perhaps his proudest accomplishment was leading the Wildcats to the 2004 NCAA Division III championship while shattering a bevy of team records that included a program-best 92 touchdowns. Elliott began his college playing career at the University of Utah before transferring to Linfield for the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

Considered one of the most dominating periods in program history, Elliott and the Wildcats went 23-1 during those two seasons, establishing a host of new school, regional and national records. In two seasons as the Wildcats' starting quarterback, Elliott passed for 110 touchdowns and over 8,600 yards, surpassing nearly every Linfield single-game, single-season and career passing record. Twelve times, he tossed at least five touchdown passes in the same game and his career tally includes eight 400-yard passing games. Elliott's 61 touchdown passes as a junior in 2004 broke an all-divisions record. That season, he also set single-season Division III records for passing yards (4,595) and completion percentage (68.1).

As a senior in 2005, Elliott was awarded both the Gagliardi Trophy and the Mehlberger Award as the top player in Division III. He was also a two-time recipient of the Linfield Male Athlete of the Year honor.

He twice was named the Northwest Conference and West Region Player of the Year remains the only Wildcat to be named national Player of the Year in consecutive seasons.

After graduating from Linfield, Elliott continued his playing career, signing as a free agent with the San Diego Chargers. He played for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe and was under contract with the San Jose Sabercats of the Arena League when the team halted operations in 2008. He also was a starter for the Utah Blaze in 2010 and Georgia Force in 2011.

Brett and his wife, Whitney, live in McMinnville and are raising three children: McKenzie, 13, Delaney, 11, and Austin, 4.
