Mitch Wilson has been named men's golf coach at Linfield College, director of athletics Garry Killgore announced this week. Wilson, who directed the Linfield women's squad last spring, takes over leadership of the men's program from John Sandberg, who steered the Wildcats for two years.
 
"I'm very excited and honored to lead the Linfield men's golf program," said Wilson. "I had a great experience coaching the women's team last spring, alongside John Sandberg and Greg Copeland who have done an amazing job with the men's program over the last several years."
 
Wilson is in his second year as golf operations manager at Michelbook Country Club in McMinnville, Linfield's home course. He supervises the administration of tournaments, junior clinics and manages the pro shop. Linfield will partner with Michelbook Country Club to host the Northwest Conference Fall Classic in October.
 
"Mitch is an outstanding person. He's an absolutely fantastic coach. But his most important quality to me is that he is such a good person," said Killgore. "Mitch is always very professional. He's going to take our men's program back to the heights we enjoyed when Greg Copeland was leading the program. With Mitch as our coach, the men's golf program is on very firm ground."
 
Wilson attended Northwest Christian University in Eugene where he competed in basketball. He graduated from NCU in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in exercise science.
 
Following his college graduation, Wilson worked as a personal trainer for five years and has assisted the Linfield athletic department as a strength and conditioning coach.
 
"I'm looking forward to working with the amazing talent we have on roster going into next season," said Wilson. "With our three seniors, all of whom have a lot of tournament experience, it's going to be great to watch their continued success. Bringing former standout player Lucas Balala on staff as an assistant coach will help tremendously with guiding some of our underclassmen and bringing in some top recruits."
 
He and his wife, Linfield women's basketball coach Casey Bunn-Wilson, are McMinnville residents.
