800 runners, hurdlers shine at L&C Invitational

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Linfield women totaled 158 points to take first place and the Wildcat men finished fourth among five teams on a cool Saturday at the Eldon Fix Track at Griswold Stadium on the Lewis & Clark campus.
 
Women
The big event of the day for Linfield was the 800-meter run. The 'Cats swept the first three places with Kaelia Neal breaking the tape in 2:15.62. Emma Knudson finished second in 2:19.64 followed by Jamie Rodden in third (2:20.52). Courtney Beard crossed the line fifth (2:24.05) and Nicole Bissey was sixth (2:25.45). Neal, Knudson, Rodden and Bissey all logged lifetime bests and Neal's effort stands third all-time in the Linfield record book.
 
Head coach Travis Olson noted that the middle distance runners "ran great," adding that the Wildcats will need some big points from the group at the upcoming Northwest Conference championships.
 
Add Women's highlights
The 'Cats also went 1-2-4 in the 100 hurdles with Kristen Burke winning the event in 16.82 followed by Kycie Richwine in second at 16.87. Juliet Arnswald clocked a person-best time of 17.51 for fourth place.
 
The Wildcat pole vaulters finished second, third and fourth. Olivia McDaniel took second place honors with a vault of 12-0 with Joanna Galli third in 11-0¼ and Meg Angier with another lifetime best 11-0¼ for fourth.
 
The trio of Josie Knight, MaKenzie Mize and Molly Danielson finished sixth (35-11½), seventh (35-11¼) and eighth (35-3), respectively. Mize (second, 119-1) and Danielson (fourth, 113-1) also placed in the discus where Kailey Wright took top honors with a toss of 120-4. Wright returned to finished second in the hammer with a toss of 137-11.
 
Dana Brooks won the javelin with a heave of 127-1 and teammate Morgan Chamberlain taking third with a best effort of 97-9.
 
Hannah Waterman gathered in two sixth place finishes by leaping 14-5 in the long jump and 30-7½ in the triple jump
 
Baylie Cameron finished sixth place in the 400 (1:01.47) and eighth in the 200 (28.86). Kycie Richwine finished one spot in front of Cameron in the 200 taking seventh in 28.03.
 
Ana Ramirez crossed the finish line in sixth place in the 1,500 with a time of 5:19.93. Arnswald ran a personal best of 1:13.11 to take fifth place in the 400 hurdles.
 
Tiffany Wall had a top-three finish with her third place in the high jump (4-10½).
 
Men
Taylor Vicknair and Max Patterson captured first and third in the 110 high hurdles. Vicknair was timed in 15.57 and Patterson 16.11.
 
Max Lommen won the high jump in a leap of 5-11¼.
 
Jeff Lieder finished in the runner-up spot in the shot put with a put of 45-2¼. Ryne Fuhrmark followed in sixth place with his 42-8 effort. Lieder came back to finish fourth in the discus at 136-4 and Fuhrmark once again gathered a sixth-place finish in 124-4.
 
Brian Douglas sewed up fourth place in two events with a 52.96 in the 400 and a leap of 19-10¾ in the long jump.
 
Travis Crockett also doubled with two fifth-place finishes, running 11.44 in the 100 and 23.24 in the 200.
 
Jeff Lee was fifth in the 1,500 in a time of 4:14.62.
 
Trey Pettersonwood took fourth overall in the javelin with his toss of 137-10.
 
Jonathan Sedy leaped 38-6 in the triple jump, good for sixth place.
 
"We had some people qualify (for the conference meet) that needed to as well as some great performances," said Olson. "I really like where we are at right now as we head into conference."
 
Next
Linfield hosts the Northwest Conference Championships at Maxwell Field on Friday and Saturday. Friday's start time is 12:30 p.m. with Saturday's action getting underway at 9 a.m.
